A domain name is your website’s address. It’s what people type into a browser to find you, for example yoursite.com.
Where do you get a Domain Name?
1. Domain Registration in Showit
You can now register your Domain right inside Showit – with the first year free!
You can find step-by-step instructions and full details here.
2. Domain Registration with a Registrar
You can also purchase a domain from a registrar. These are companies whose job is to sell and manage domain names. Common ones include:
Siteground: Easy to use, great support.
Namecheap: straightforward, no frills
GoDaddy: widely used, lots of support resources
Expect to pay roughly $10–$25 per year. You’re not buying it permanently; you renew it annually. If you stop renewing, it becomes available for someone else.
Once your Showit website is ready, you connect your domain to it through a process called DNS configuration – this sound scary but luckily Showit are amazing and do it for you. To find out more, read this article: How to Connect your Domain to Showit via DNS Records.
What does a domain name look like?
A domain has two parts:
The name — yoursite or yourname
The extension — .com, .co, .au, .net
.com is the default for most businesses. If your .com is taken, you can choose from a list of other relevant extensions.
What makes a good domain name?
Keep it short and easy to spell. Avoid hyphens and numbers as they create confusion. janesmithphotography.com works. jane-smith-photo.com doesn’t.
Your domain should match your business name as closely as possible. That consistency builds trust from the first impression.
Domain vs. website — what’s the difference?
Your domain is the address. Your website is what lives at that address. You can own a domain without having a website. Many people register a domain early to secure the name
